PerioMechanics

What PerioMechanics is

PerioMechanics is first-principles periodontology. It is a synthesis of biomechanics and finite-element analysis of anisotropic tissues — tissues of different quality and stiffness. Tooth, periodontal ligament, bone, and gingiva are not one material.

Those tissues are also defined by their perfusion, down to the minuscule gap of the periodontal ligament between bone and tooth that are, for practical purposes, immovable.

Out of that mechanics comes a biochemical environment. If force or pathology is present, molecular signaling happens. It changes what is wrong and where. That tissue signaling in turn changes the environment again.

Treat the whole as one interacting system on differing levels — mechanics, perfusion, biochemistry, signaling — not as separate stories.

The name

PerioMechanics is first-principles periodontology. It treats the periodontium — gingiva, cementum, periodontal ligament, alveolar bone — as a load-bearing, perfused organ, not as a frame around a tooth. Bite is a vector. Blood is a member of the construction. The methods are biomechanics, fluid dynamics, perfusion theory, and finite-element analysis (FEA): a way into the depths of biology, not a replacement for it.

This site is a public teaching lab by Igor Kosmina, DMD, Periodontist at Polyclinic Breyer, Sisak. Consultations for a fee. The plates, knobs, and notes are educational models. Not a medical device. Not diagnosis.

What it is not

It is not a clinic portal. There is no booking widget and no shop window. The chair is in Sisak. Consultations for a fee.

It is not a product. There is no kit to buy, no certified solver, no patient-specific output. Teaching geometry. Teaching knobs.

It is not a Wikipedia field yet. The term is defined here, on this URL, so that a search has something true to attach to the name.

It is not peridynamics. Peridynamics is Stewart Silling's continuum-fracture theory from 2000 — a nonlocal reformulation of solid mechanics, used for cracks in materials. The names share a prefix. They do not share a subject. PerioMechanics is periodontology. If you arrived looking for Silling, you are in the wrong room.

How to read the lab

Pictures first. Patient doors: what periodontitis is, and why gums recede.

Then the models. The lab is six modules in order. The Codex is a public walkthrough of a full-mouth implantoprosthetic sequence — educational, not a device.

Then the essays. Chair language starts with the periodontium as architecture. The longer form of this definition is the journal note What PerioMechanics is.

Educational and illustrative teaching models. Not a medical device. Not for diagnosis, treatment planning, or patient-specific simulation.
